EVOLVE
Midi controller / work in progress
In this project, I developed a MIDI controller designed to generate evolving, semi-random musical patterns. My aim was to create a tool that transforms simple melodies into dynamic compositions, continually shifting and adapting through a series of algorithm-driven patterns. The controller leverages a range of algorithms to produce melodies that evolve with each repetition, giving users the ability to craft unique, unpredictable soundscapes.
This MIDI controller goes beyond basic melody creation, offering a suite of features like arpeggiators, delays, randomizers, and pitch and octave shifts. By combining these effects, users can layer rhythmic and harmonic elements, resulting in complex, ever-changing musical textures. Each feature can be customized to suit the user’s style, from subtle variations to dramatic shifts that completely alter the melody.
The project is an exploration of generative music, where my focus was on building a system that feels organic and responsive. The controller’s algorithms enable it to generate melodies that are both familiar and surprising, maintaining a balance between randomness and musical coherence. Through this project, I aimed to create a tool that invites exploration, making it possible for musicians to produce compositions that are fresh, spontaneous, and engaging.
